From ideas to action
Connect capability with need.
The UK has research, inventors, engineers, manufacturers, entrepreneurs and capital. It also has people and organisations experiencing problems that need practical answers. Our objective is to connect them.
Our intended approach
From a problem to a practical response.
This is the approach we aim to develop, not an existing project pipeline or a promise of investment. Each challenge will need its own evidence, team and route forward.
- 01
Define a real challenge
Work with affected people and organisations to understand the need, the operating conditions and what a useful outcome would look like.
- 02
Find what already exists
Identify relevant research, inventions and proven solutions. Understand what can be used, adapted or tested before starting again.
- 03
Bring the right capabilities together
Assemble technical, commercial, financial and operational expertise around the challenge, with clear responsibilities and practical objectives.
- 04
Develop and test
Where needed, develop prototypes and test them in appropriate conditions. Learn what works, what does not and what needs to change.
- 05
Establish feasibility and routes forward
Assess technical and commercial feasibility, funding options, manufacturing capability and the operational requirements of delivery.
- 06
Progress implementation
Help viable solutions move towards use with the people who need them. Progress depends on evidence, resources and the decisions of those involved.
The connections that matter
Inventors with engineers
Engineers with manufacturers
Universities with businesses
Entrepreneurs with investors
Project teams with policymakers
Great British ideas should not fail because the people behind them cannot find the expertise, funding, manufacturing capability or route to market.
Proposals, not established facilities
A place to collaborate. Teams built around a need.
We want to explore project teams that bring the right skills together around clearly defined adaptation challenges. Their purpose would be practical development and delivery, rather than discussion alone.
A dedicated collaboration and prototyping hub is an ambition we would like to investigate. No facility is established or committed. Its form, feasibility, funding and usefulness would need to be worked through with potential participants.
